Yes, I think people miss this point. Wintersday is the Tyria New Year.. its not xmas!
It may as well be, but it isn't. They called it Wintersday so that everyone can enjoy it.

Christmas and Halloween have been a long way separated from their originating religions for a very long time now, aka commercialised and globally celebrated. Hence it's fine for games (and I know quite a few that do) to indulge in the ideas behind those festivals without being accused of supporting one religion/nation/culture over another. I'm neither pagan nor Christian and I celebrate both XD
Thanksgiving just isn't an international holiday the way those two are, so I don't really see a need for developing festivities around it.

if they add thanksgiving, I demand they also put sinterklaas in. Seriously, what is more fun than an old man with lots of servants in funny outfits who give presents to little kids?

Yeah, us Euro + American people will instantly associate the snow, presents and trees with Christmas but there was no actual references to Christmas, Christianity or even Santa in the Wintersday event.
If there was Thanksgiving festival I wouldn't have a clue what was going on. In fact, I don't even know why people are thankful on that day.

Yeah! Sinterklaas would get my vote as well! Though the idea of 'zwarte pieten' might offend some people.

IF there were a change to the GW holiday schedule, then maybe a springtime festival and an autumn festival of some sort.
The existing festivals:
Dragon Festival in Cantha
"Halloween" in Tyria and in Elona
Wintersday in Tyria (and Elona?)
Please keep religion out of this.

Maybe they should give us a quest that allows us to go turkey hunting. Turn all those anoying Imps into turkeys and give us some crazy reward for killing them.

Well if Anet arnt allowed to do Easter it makes perfect sence they arnt allowed to do Thanksgiving. They simply want to keep everything as international as possible other wise they would alienate a large chunk of there fan base.

Did not go thru the whole thread but just a side note that Thanksgiving comes in October in Canada.
Basically like others said, Halloween is just a celebration that even other RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOries that do not celebrate it are starting to do since its just fun to dress up in stuff.
Wintersday is not Christams, its just a celebration for the new year, the proof of that is that they gave out the holiday hats on new years and not christams night.

There once was a Fall celebration in Cantha. It was called the Harvest Ceremony. It did not end well.

As I recall, Wintersday event ends on New Years, so thats not really proof that its the Tyrian New Year, it seems more like ANets giving the hats away at the end of the event. And I would like to see a few morw major holidays in Tyria, even though Im too busy killing mobs and whatnot to participate.

Only the US celebrates it this week. Canada had it last month, and Europe/Asia don't even bother. There's no reason.

It HAS been a year, and I just forgot. Most likely it is Christmas though, as giving presents on New Years isnt as well-known as on Christmas. IDK, dont really care one way or the other actually lol
